Cougars Hill, Mathews up for national honors

BYU senior quarterback Taysom Hill was on Wednesday named as a nominee for the Wuerffel Trophy, awarded to the FBS player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.

Also Wednesday, senior wide receiver Mitch Mathews was placed on the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the most outstanding receiver in college football.

Having served a two-year LDS mission to Australia before beginning his BYU career, Hill is also a nominee for the Maxwell Award, honoring the college player of the year.

Mathews enters his 2015 season with 98 career catches for 1,346 yards and 13 touchdowns. He led the Cougars in catches, yards and receiving TDs in 2014.
