PROVO — A group of sister missionaries was moved to another building at the Missionary Training Center in Provo after one woman spotted a bat in her room, officials said.

The sister missionaries recently moved into the building where they were staying, according to Eric Hawkins, a spokesman for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He said the building had been “vacant for some time” before they moved in.

“Following that move, one sister missionary reported being awakened by a bat in her room,” Hawkins said in a statement. “In accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control, appropriate preventative treatment for rabies is being given to those in that room.”

The incident involving the bat occurred late last week, according to the church.

“All sister missionaries in that building have been moved to other housing areas until it can be determined that it is safe for them to return,” Hawkins said.
