PINEVIEW RESERVOIR, Weber County — People in northern Utah are picking up garbage at Pineview Reservoir that was left behind by visitors over the weekend.

Those who live near the reservoir say it’s a common problem and they want it to stop.

John Schow likes to visit the reservoir “because it’s a free beach and you can bring dogs.”

You can look out and enjoy the picturesque views of the water and scenery, but look a little closer and you see lots of garbage.

For Kamile Marshall, this beach is like her second home and she’s taking matters into her own hands.

“We’re very passionate about this area over here,” Marshall said.

She and some other locals rallied the community to help clean up the trash.

The Marshalls and Schows want to be able to come back to this area for years and not have it ruined by all of the trash. They hope that people who come to enjoy the water will take out whatever they bring with them.

The Forest Service says it hires people to maintain that part of the reservoir but they can’t always keep up. They rely a lot on the public to also do their part to preserve the area.
