SALT LAKE CITY — At draft time, Rudy Gobert's standing reach amazed people around the NBA, from players to executives. He was measured as a 9-foot-7-inch standing reach at the NBA combine, which is still pretty ridiculous. That was a nearly a record for the combine process, second to only Pavel Podkolvine's 9-foot-8-inch measurement.
But then Jazz GM Dennis Lindsey had some news to break of his own after talking about the Jazz's draft selections on Thursday.
"Rudy's standing reach, because his posture is better and his joint mobility is better, because of his work here and at Santa Barbara. He now touches 9 feet 9 inches."
That's 3 inches away from the rim while standing flat-footed, reaching towards the sky. Ridiculous.
Lindsey said Gobert was pretty proud of his accomplishment.
"When he was in last week, he was telling me that, and I don't know if he was expecting a raise or not. It's a little anecdotal deal, but that's the type of work that we do."
