SALT LAKE CITY — On a hot Sunday afternoon at Smith’s Ballpark, the Salt Lake Bees recorded an 8-3 loss to the Albuquerque Isotopes.
The Bees held a 3-2 lead through six innings, but a two-run seventh gave the Isotopes the lead and started an offensive run that saw Albuquerque score six total runs in the back three innings. Following a three-run first, the Bees were limited to two hits through the remainder of the game.
The home team staged a comeback in the bottom of the ninth as Salt Lake loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batter, but Albuquerque was able to keep the runners from scoring.
Salt Lake starter Tyler Deloach (1-4) allowed four runs over six innings and was tagged with the loss, while Steven Hensley, though he did not record an earned run, was credited with a blown save after allowing two inherited runners to score. Alfredo Marte and Alex Yarbrough led the Bees' offense, with Marte contributing two singles and Yarbrough knocking a two-run double.
“After the first inning, we didn’t have many chances to score runs until the last inning,” said Salt Lake manager Dave Anderson. “It was a good game. They executed on some plays offensively against us and ended up scoring some runs.”
Salt Lake and Albuquerque face off Monday at 7:05 p.m. to cap off the homestand. The Bees then head to Sacramento for four before returning to Smith’s Ballpark on July 4 against the El Paso Chihuahuas.
