OKLAHOMA CITY — Dixie State softball's attempt at the school's first Division II national championship was cut short with a 5-0 loss to North Georgia Monday afternoon.

The Red Storm (52-8) were playing in their third Division II softball championship in school history, but the Nighthawks' four-run second inning proved too much of an obstacle.

Losing pitcher Michelle Duncan (31-1) took her first loss of the year, totaling 1 2/3 innings in the final game of her senior season. Duncan's career wrapped up with 75 wins, the most individually in school history.

Relief pitcher Aryn Feickert, who picked up the win in Sunday's national semifinal, pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed only one run on one hit. Maple Mountain grad Josey Hartman, Stansbury grad Janessa Bassett and Duncan were named to the NCAA Division II all-tournament team.

The Red Storm's 52 wins is the most in program history and marks back-to-back seasons of 50 wins or more.

North Georgia (54-8) won its first Division II softball title in school history.

Dixie State will welcome back the softball team Tuesday at Karl Brooks Field in St. George at 10:30 a.m. MT. The event is open to the public.
