FARR WEST — Heavy rain kept firefighters in northern Utah busy Saturday night through early Sunday morning.

The Weber Fire District was called to assist with at least seven reported flooding incidents in Farr West, Marriott-Slaterville, West Haven and unincorporated parts of Weber County.

Canals and streams in some of those rural areas overflowed with the constant rainfall, causing water to spill out onto the roadways and residential properties. One Farr West resident awoke to 3 inches of water in his basement.

Sandbags were placed at the doors and garages of several homes. Standing water forced crews to shut down 4000 North near 2700 West on Sunday for several hours. The road provides access to Willard Bay's South Marina.

The National Weather Service reported more than 2 inches of rain fell in some of those areas over the past 48 hours.

Farmington Canyon will also be closed for the next three days after a giant boulder — estimated to be the size of a small- to medium-size vehicle — fell onto the main road.

Constant rain in the canyon is being blamed for loosening the boulder that fell onto the road about 11:30 a.m. roughly 1 ½ miles up the canyon. No one was injured, and parks and recreation crews used a front-end loader to help move the giant rock off to the side of the road, according to the Davis County Sheriff's Office.

The road will remain closed for the next three days while engineers check the stability of the slopes to make sure no other boulders are about to come down, said Davis County Sheriff's Sgt. DeeAnn Servey.

Crews on four-wheelers went up the canyon Sunday to inform campers what had happened and to tell them to take Skyline Drive home. More rain is forecasted for later in the week.
