Couple married 74 years dies hours apart in Salt Lake City

"As in life, Marcus and Madelyn would not be separated by death."

That sentiment was written by Carol Bradford in her parents' combined obituary. Madelyn Yensen, 94, died on April 7. Her husband, 95-year-old Marcus Yensen, joined her in death just a few hours later.

The Salt Lake couple had been married for more than 74 years.

The pair met each other in 1940 at a dance studio when Marcus took a dance lesson from Madelyn. Just one month later, after a "whirlwind of romance" — which included a date that ran past curfew and infuriated Madelyn's mother — they were married, said their youngest son, Byron Yensen.

Former wrestlers charged, assistant coach disciplined in Bountiful High hazing case

Two former Bountiful High School wrestlers have been charged in 2nd District Court and an assistant wrestling coach reprimanded by the school after an allegedly violent case of hazing on a team bus in December.

Christopher Brooks Fletcher, 18, is charged with two counts of sexual battery, a class A misdemeanor, and a count of hazing, a class B misdemeanor. Lamar Allen Gimmeson, 18, is charged with one count each of sexual battery and hazing.

Bountiful assistant coach Michael Weaver was disciplined by the school in connection with the alleged Dec. 20 incident, though Davis School District officials didn't elaborate on the action taken against him. Weaver's connection to the incident was also not publicly released by the school district. He was not criminally charged.

Utah group in Nepal stunned by violent earthquake

Just before their trek in Nepal began, Apa Sherpa's group of four hikers stopped to have their flags blessed in a traditional ceremony.

Apa, who is from Nepal but lives in Utah, has climbed to the top of Mount Everest more times than anyone else in the world. However, this mission was to help school children.

"This was a big step for her and an important trip," said Andrew Riddle, the father of Alexis Riddle, who is one of the hikers on Apa's team. "She's always been a very caring and helping person and she has talked about going over there for quite some time now."

Kaysville motorcyclist dies after colliding into semitruck on U.S. 40

A Kaysville motorcyclist died in a Sunday crash on state Route 40 just east of Jordanelle Reservoir.

Conor S. Wilson, 23, appears to have struck the rear trailer of a slow-moving semitrailer hauling a loaded double tanker about 2:43 p.m. Sunday, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

Third-graders learn the ABCs of managing money

Mention money, even to young kids, and their little faces light up and their excitement is unmistakable.

And getting kids enthusiastic about something is one of the best ways to keep their attention and help them absorb the knowledge they need to learn.

On Friday, third-graders at Guadalupe School in Rose Park got a lesson from two of Utah's top banking executives on the basics of money management.
