PARK CITY — Spring hiking is at its peak and if you want a new trail to hike with your dog, check out this off-leash trail in Kimball Junction.
The Run-A-Muk Trail was introduced as an off-leash dog trail in November 2014. This trail was built and is sponsored by the Basin Recreation Area and is located in Kimball Junction near Park City. The trail is just under two miles roundtrip, but dogs have the freedom of roaming a full 43 acres along the trail.
The entire area is fenced off so pet owners don't need to worry about their dog getting lost or running into traffic.
The trail is located along the drive to Olympic Park in Kimball Junction so it's a neat experience to be able to hike and see where the winter Olympians train. The trail takes you through a few beautiful aspen groves and sagebrush areas.
During most of the hike, you can see Kimball Junction and the Olympic Park. The trail is an easy hike and is suitable for beginner hikers and children.
Remember to bring your own dog bags to clean up your pet's waste and bring plenty of water for yourself and the dogs, especially if it is a hot day.
To get to Run-A-Muk Trail from Salt Lake City, drive east on I-80 through Parley's Canyon and take the Kimball Junction exit. Turn right onto Olympic Parkway and at the roundabout, head south on Olympic Parkway. Look for the dirt parking lot on the left.
There will be a sign that says dogs must be leashed, but that is while they are in the parking lot. Once they are in the gate at the start of the trail, they can remain off leash.
