OGDEN — If you’ve been hankering to try a new restaurant, Ogden Restaurant Week gives the perfect opportunity to eat out while still going easy on your wallet.

Similar to Salt Lake City’s Dine-O-Round, Ogden Restaurant Week offers discounted meals at local, independent restaurants, giving people the chance to “try a new restaurant or visit your favorite,” according to the Visit Ogden website. The restaurants will be offering two-course lunches for $8 and three-course dinners for $15.

Ogden Restaurant Week runs from Friday to April 19, and 19 local restaurants will be participating. Be sure to ask for the discounted Ogden Restaurant Week menu.

Here are five participating restaurants you should try.

Rovali’s Ristorante Italiano

Rovali’s Ristorante Italiano opened in Layton in 2006, then moved to Ogden in 2010. The family owned business has live music on Friday and Saturday nights and has a patio dining area for warmer weather.

The Sardegna (Lasagna) is its most popular dish, and it will be included as an entree on both the lunch and dinner menus during Ogden Restaurant Week. The lasagna can also be customized as a vegetarian dish — either way, it’s cheesy, fresh and super delicious.

The appetizers included for the discounted lunch and dinner menus are a cup of soup, a garden salad or a caesar salad. All of the dressings for the salads are made in house. The dessert menu varies from lunch to dinner, but if you eat there for dinner, get the homemade chocolate decadence cake. Yum.

And although the bocci rolls are not included as one of the discounted appetizer, you should probably get one. Your mouth will thank you later.

Rooster’s Brewing Co.

Related Stories:

Known for its locally brewed craft beers and root beer, Rooster’s Brewing Co. has been in business since 1994. True to its name, the restaurant has rooster decor everywhere, making for a homey dining experience.

It will be offering a large selection of appetizers on the discounted menus, including local deep-fried, Beehive Cheese curds. Its popular, fresh Mahi fish tacos are a must for lunch or dinner. For dessert, its well-known caramel bread pudding offers a perfect blend of chewy and crunchy caramelized texture and has a honey syrup taste. Trust me when I say it’s scrumptious and worth the calories.

(If you are in the mood for other American food selections, the owners of Rooster’s Brewing Co. also own Union Grill, which is also a participating restaurant for Ogden Restaurant Week.)

Lucky Slice

If you are looking for a fun and vibrant pizza parlor, Lucky Slice is your place. Opened in February 2012, Lucky Slice offers unique, 20-inch pizzas and large individual slices. The appetizers included for the discounted dinner menu include a large salad with homemade dressing or bread sticks with dipping sauce.

Lucky Slice offers a pizza combo special for each day of the week with a variety of flavors, including tangy barbecue chicken and spartiken, a pizza with mozzarella, spinach, artichoke and roasted chicken.

You can enjoy a Rice Krispie treat for dessert while playing the restaurant's old-school Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game.

Tona Sushi

#poll

Named after a combination of the owners' names — Tina and Tony — Tona Sushi opened in 2004. Patrons can customize their dining experience by choosing to sit in the main dining area, at the sushi bar or in the semi-private guest room that’s complete with cushions and floor seating.

For appetizers, the garlic edamame is offered on the lunch and dinner menus, offering enough flavor to whet your appetite for the sushi to come. The sushi dishes are so beautiful that you almost don’t want to eat them — the key word being “almost.” You will eat them and they will taste delicious and super fresh.

The smokin’ cobia roll is its most popular sushi roll and will be offered on the discounted lunch menu. It's served with light kale and garlic chips. The New Style Ahi Poke sushi will be among the dinner entrees and offers the perfect blend of sweet and spicy with its mixture of jalapeno, apple and maguro sashimi.

While it's not on the discounted menu, the salmon shioyaki offers a good alternative for those who don’t love sushi. The grilled salmon and fresh vegetables still give patrons a flavorful taste of Japan.

Location: 210 25th St.

Sonora Grill

If you are craving Mexican cuisine, look no further. Sonora Grill was opened in March 2008 and soon became well-known for its flautas. The decor gives an old Spanish ambience that complements the fresh, made-from-scratch dishes. The discounted menus will be the same for lunch and dinner.

The flavorful, fresh guacamole is a great choice for an appetizer that goes perfectly with its enormous, fried corn chips. The chile verde and cochinita pibil are both great pork entrees, with the verde offering a more savory dish and the cochinita offering more spice. Sonora Grill also includes vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options of its dishes.

If nothing else, order the Sopapillas for dessert — think light and airy mini scones, drizzled with honey and cinnamon sugar that you dip in homemade whipped cream. Yes, they melt in your mouth. Yes, they taste like heaven.
