The accident occurred just before 6:30 a.m. on 1000 West in Delta, according to Millard County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Morris Burton. A man, later identified as 29-year-old Shay Olson Rowley, was traveling southbound on 1000 West in his pickup truck. Rowley stopped and walked into the middle of road to retrieve an item that had flown out of his truck, Burton said.

While Rowley, an Oak City resident, was picking up the item, a vehicle turned onto 1000 West and began driving northbound toward Rowley. As Rowley began to move out of the road, he was struck by another large truck that was traveling southbound, Burton said.

Rowley was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the large truck told police he was momentarily blinded by the headlights of the oncoming vehicle and didn’t see Rowley, Burton said. No charges have yet been filed in connection with the accident. Police said there is no suspicion of drugs or alcohol involved.
