HERRIMAN — More than 15,000 Easter eggs will be hidden around W&M Butterfield Park Saturday in an effort to help one little girl and her family move into a home more suitable for her medical needs.

Brielle Burr, 1, was born with Beare Stevenson syndrome, a rare disorder involving the premature fusion of the skull, causing brain and breathing issues and affecting the overall growth of her body, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Brielle is one of about 30 people to be diagnosed with the disorder and is dependent on a ventilator, oxygen and a gastrostomy tube, but her house is not quite equipped for all her medical equipment, according to Brielle’s aunt, Cynthia Burr.

Along with other family members, Cynthia Burr has organized a large “Spring Fling” event, including a large Easter egg hunt, a 5K run, carnival games and more to raise funds so the Burr family can move into a home more suitable for Brielle’s medical needs, Cynthia Burr said.

“This event is going to be pretty awesome,” her father, Ryan Burr said. “There’s a lot of people that have donated, and it’s been amazing to see the community come together and just to help out.”

A few weeks ago, the family began asking for Easter egg donations on local yard sale Facebook pages, and they received an overwhelming response.

When the founders of the community scavenger hunt, Swan Saturday, got word of Brielle’s condition, they dedicated one Swan Saturday to her, asking participants to donate half their findings to Brielle, Burr said.

Swan Saturday was started by three Utah brothers in January. Each Saturday, residents all over Utah hide prizes in a variety of decorative swans and leave a clue on their community Swan Saturday Facebook page as to where they’ve hidden the swan.

After Swan Saturday on March 14, the Burr family received more than 15,000 Easter eggs in addition to candy and prizes that will be hidden inside at the Spring Fling.

“That whole week, people were just dropping off things. People were dropping off eggs and things to fill them with and little toys to fill them with and prizes for prize eggs,” Cynthia Burr said. “It just was so amazing. We’re all just in awe of how much stuff they brought.”

Registration for the “Spring Fling” 5K begins at 6:45 a.m. March 28 at the W & J Butterfield Park, 6212 Butterfield Park Way. The race will begin at 7:30, and the first 130 runners to sign up will receive a free T-shirt. Country Care Life Center, sponsors of the event, will give out prizes to the first runners to cross the finish line, Burr said.

The country breakfast and the Easter egg hunt will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Several vendors selling products at the event will donate proceeds to Brielle. Tickets for the event cost $7.50 for adults and $5 for children ages 3 and up. A family of five can get in for a discounted price of $25.

“So many companies, so many generous people just donate tons of stuff,” Cynthia Burr said.

Event participants could walk away with free kids meals to restaurants all over the Salt Lake Valley, free Frostys from Wendy’s, gift cards, toys and prizes, Cynthia Burr said.

“She’s really the sweetest thing,” Cynthia Burr said of Brielle. “She’s just an angel.”
