Nominated by Rachael Kimball

For the past 6 years, Greg has been holding a 'study group' at his home for 14 students in dual immersion classes at Calvin Smith Elementary School, learning Chinese. Greg learned Chinese when he spent two years in Taiwan. His children and a group from our neighborhood started learning Chinese in first grade. When our oldest were in first grade and us other parents were struggling with helping our kids with their homework, he started the study group so that our kids wouldn't be helped incorrectly. He has continued the study group for the last 6 years, and has added the younger siblings. He holds it weekly, for an hour for each age group. Donating 2 hours of his time each week to the benefit of our students, even through the summer so that the students don't get lazy on their tones. He prepares each week so that these neighborhood kids are learning and understanding their homework, and learning about the culture and having fun at the same time.

Our students are at the top of their class in Chinese and all of us parents know that is attributed to Greg Spencer and his countless hours of service preparing our students to be fluent in the Chinese language!
