WEST VALLEY CITY — It will be an all-Southern Utah state final in the 3A Saturday.

Thanks to Pine View’s 56-42 win over Richfield, and Dixie’s four-overtime win over Desert Hills, crosstown foes Pine View and Dixie will battle for the 3A state championship after wins in the 3A semifinals Friday at the Maverik Center in West Valley City.

Three of the four teams in the semifinals were from St. George. Dixie and Desert Hills have played dramatic games so far this season, but nothing will top their semifinal matchup.

Dixie took an early 13-4 after the first quarter, but the Thunder fought back to tie the game at 50-50 to end regulation. Both teams matched evenly in the first three overtimes, but Dixie’s 7-of-10 free-throw performance in the fourth overtime clinched the game for the Flyers.

Dixie and Pine View will play at 1:00 pm at the Maverick Center on Saturday.

Dixie is attempting to be the first team to win both the football and boys basketball state titles in 3A since Hurricane achieved the two-step in the 2011-12 school year.

Tyler Bennett led Dixie with 22 points, RJ Wilgar had 20, and Jake Hawes scored 18.

Marcus McKone paced Desert Hills with 25 points, while Tanner Leishman added 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Thunder.

Pine View had a close battle with Richfield, as the Panthers held just a 16-14 lead after the first quarter. However, Pine View went on a 12-5 run in the second quarter that opened the game up.

BYU football commit Kody Wilstead finished the game with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Crosstown rivals Pine View and Dixie will play for the state title at 1 p.m. at the Maverik Center.

Morgan and Juan Diego will play for the 3A girls title at 11 a.m.
