SALT LAKE CITY—The third-ranked Utah gymnastics team heads to the Pacific Northwest on Saturday to compete against 17th-ranked Washington. While the Utes are 47-0-2 all-time against the Huskies and 12-0-2 in Seattle, the Red Rocks aren’t focusing on their past domination.

“It’s another good test for us on the road,” said co-head coach Megan Marsden. “Washington is an improved team this year and I think it will take a really good meet by us. I’m sure they will come guns blazing.”

The two ties in the series occurred at the Alaska Airlines Arena, the most recent being the last time Utah (7-0, 3-0 Pac-12) competed in Seattle during the 2012-2013 season. Washington’s (5-3, 1-2 Pac-12) final gymnast on floor, Aliza Vaccher, received a 9.925 for the tie. In 2001, the last Husky needed a 10.0 and got it.

A tie is not what the Utes are looking for this weekend. The team seeks to continue their undefeated season but knows Washington will provide a competitive meet.

“If we have to count a fall somewhere, I think it could be tough,” Marsden said.

In routines without a fall, Utah is 117-120. The team hasn't had a fall in the last two meets and has yet to have one count. Eight gymnasts have hit every routine — Wilson (20-20), Dabritz (19-19), Kari Lee (13-13), Breanna Hughes (8-8), Tiffani Lewis (7-7), Kailah Delaney (6-6), Kassandra Lopez (5-5) and Maddy Stover (5-5).

Washington is coming off a 194.500-197.000 loss against UCLA. Sophomore Janae Janik’s 9.875 score on beam was the highest the Huskies received Monday night.

The Utes last meet was historical. On vault, senior co-captains Tory Wilson and Georgia Dabritz earned back-to-back 10s. It was the second time in school history for consecutive perfect scores (1993).

“We have athletes that are capable of 10s, so I guess each meet I feel like that’s a possibility. Back-to-back doesn’t happen often so I wasn’t expecting that,” Marsden said.

Pac-12 Networks will televise Saturday’s meet at 5 p.m. MT.
