SOUTH SALT LAKE CITY — A 55-year-old man is dead after he was hit by a car while crossing State Street Saturday evening.

South Salt Lake City police officer Mitch Howard said the man was hit just before 6 p.m. when he attempted to cross the busy street near 3600 South.

“Where he was found, he was approximately within 30 yards of the crosswalk,” Howard said, “but he was not in the crosswalk when he was struck.”

The man, identified only a South Salt Lake resident, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The drivers who hit the man were cooperating with the investigation and did not seem to be impaired, Howard said.

A section of State Street was closed for most of the evening while police conducted their investigation.
