Cal Poly beats Montana State to move atop Big Sky

OGDEN — Cal Poly is inching closer and closer to a Big Sky title.

The Mustangs entered a game against conference leader Montana State with the hopes of pulling an upset and knotting up the race. Mission accomplished, as Cal Poly beat the Bobcats 35-27 on a late touchdown.

It appeared as if Weber State would pull a massive upset, especially when the Wildcats took a 22-0 lead in the first quarter of their game against Northern Arizona. Instead, Weber allowed 29 unanswered points, and the Lumberjacks downed Weber 29-22.

A week after falling to Northern Arizona, Eastern Washington took out its frustration on North Dakota, as the Eagles routed North Dakota 54-3. Eagles quarterback Jordan West threw for 314 yards and two touchdowns.


Six teams in the Big Sky have just one loss.

Idaho State continued its winning streak as the Bengals downed Portland State 31-13. Jordan Arias, Idaho State’s quarterback, threw for 319 yards and two touchdowns.

Montana beat visiting Sacramento State as the Grizzlies prevailed 31-13. Montana’s 196-94 edge in rushing yards helped it fly past the Hornets.

Also, Northern Colorado beat UC-Davis, 27-21.

The action leaves six teams with one loss: Northern Arizona, Montana, Eastern Washington, Montana State, Cal Poly and Idaho State.

Matchups in week 11 include Montana traveling to face Eastern Washington. Cal Poly travels to play Idaho State, while UC-Davis will play at Northern Arizona. Montana State hosts Portland State, and Southern Utah plays at Sacramento State. Also, Weber State travels to North Dakota.
