Cal Poly victory over Montana highlight in week 9 of Big Sky season

OGDEN — Two weeks ago against Weber State, Cal Poly hoped to gain some momentum.

Now, the Mustangs are inching closer to the top of the Big Sky after a 41-21 defeat of the Montana Grizzlies in the season’s eighth week.

Cal Poly rushed for 421 yards to fly past the Griz. Chris Brown rushed for 226 yards and two touchdowns to lead the team.

Another highlight performance came from Northern Arizona, which scored a last-second touchdown to beat Eastern Washington, 28-27, in Flagstaff. The Lumberjacks had 343 passing yards, and Jordan Perry threw a 20-yard pass to Dan Galindo for the go-ahead score.


Montana State, the conference's top team, had a bye week in week nine.

Southern Utah earned its second victory of the season on a 35-17 win over North Dakota. The Thunderbirds’ Ammon Olsen passed for 320 yards and four touchdowns. Four different receivers caught scores from Olsen.

Other games included Portland State’s 30-17 victory over Weber State and Idaho State’s blowout 46-12 win over Northern Colorado.

Notable matchups in week nine include Sacramento State traveling to Montana, Northern Arizona playing at Weber State, and North Dakota playing Eastern Washington. Also, Northern Colorado plays at UC-Davis, Idaho State plays at Portland State, and Montana State plays Cal Poly.
