PLANET EARTH — It’s Earth Day, which means it’s time to reflect on what we’re doing to keep our planet beautiful.
Many movies even remind us to give Earth some TLC, but some others just want to watch the world burn.
So, here are five movies that don’t care it’s Earth Day.
I’m not sure how much Michael Bay likes the Earth, because he likes blowing up significant chunks of it in every movie.
“Armageddon” is a guilty pleasure, and that asteroid doesn’t care about Earth Day celebrations. It just wants to come in and ruin the party, but, thankfully, Bruce Willis is all about saving the Earth, showing that giant rock not to mess with our home.
Thanks, Mr. Willis.
Earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanoes are all trying to bring the world to its knees in "2012." In this movie, the world is telling us it’s sick of Earth Day and is ready for retirement, but a limo driver says, “No way.”
While John Cusack and a weirder-than-usual Woody Harrelson can’t save all of us, at least there’s some hope.
You know what? Don’t watch this movie on Earth Day, or any day, for that matter. It’s really not very good.
If there’s one force that doesn’t care about Earth Day, it’s monsters. Specifically the “Cloverfield” monster.
This overgrown bug/bat is just a jerk and will destroy anything in its path, including buildings, trees and an extremely overzealous amateur filmmaker with surprisingly steady hands and a serious commitment to never stop rolling.
Unfortunately for us, Bruce Willis wasn’t available for this one. Sorry, Earth and mankind.
Aliens always seem to want to take over our little blue planet, but in the process they take out all humanity and destroy the Earth along with it. Seems counterproductive to me.
In "Independence Day," the creatures from outer space blow everything up and just ignore the spirit of Earth Day. We’re trying to make it a more beautiful and safe place; why are you guys trying to undo all that? Pretty messed up.
Thankfully for Earth, America had the greatest president ever in Bill Pullman's Thomas J. Whitmore, and he showed those aliens they don’t scare us.
Speaking of aliens, one who’s promised to take care of us and our home seems to totally not care about any of that when he’s in the middle of some fisticuffs.
“Man of Steel” shows us some of the great beauty our Earth has to offer, from the Great White North to the heartland of America, but eventually Superman stops caring about Earth and many of its inhabitants when he has a bone to pick with another alien.
Sure, he fights off Zod so our people won’t be wiped out, but at the same time he totally destroys a city and kills who knows how many people. Earth Day’s about peace and keeping things moving in the right direction, not obliterating landscapes and cities.
Look, Superman, we’re grateful you took out Zod, but could you try to be a touch more careful next time?
Well, happy Earth Day, human race. We have a pretty awesome planet, so let’s keep it that way. Let's take care of Earth and try our best to stay on Bruce Willis’ good side.
