PARK CITY — After watching her daughter’s kindergarten teacher come up with amazing crafts for students day after day, one Utah mom knew she had to spread the creativity around.

“The whole year I kept telling Amy, ‘You need to be in everyone’s home teaching them how to do all this,’” Anna Francis said of the teacher, Amy McGarr.

Together Francis and McGarr came up with the idea for CraftyKits, a box of craft supplies and plans delivered via subscription to homes around the country.

McGarr, who has been teaching kindergarten for 20 years, said she hopes the CraftyKits will help parents kindle the flame of creativity in their own children.

“I would purchase books and would find that I liked the ideas but didn’t always have materials on hand.” McGarr said. “I imagined if I was having trouble filling my toddler’s days with meaningful activities surely others were too.

Francis said she has also looked for fun and educational ways to help her two children embrace their creativity.

“It was something I needed,” Francis said. “Now it’s a monthly kit. You can subscribe to for a year or just monthly.”

Each CraftyKit contains supplies to make 20 individual crafts. The cost per box is $35 per month or $29 per month for an annual subscription. Francis said each craft costs about $1.75 to make.

“The target age for the crafts is 3 to 7 years old,” Francis said. “Each box contains crafts for the season or holiday in the month it is delivered.”

All the supplies are non-toxic. Each month, there are a few math or vocabulary activities built into a few of the crafts, Francis said.

“It’s all things you would want for little kids,” Francis added.

Once a box is delivered, parents can go online to craftyfunmom.com to read instructions for the crafts.

Francis said she and McGarr are looking to expand their business and have been selling deliverable gift baskets for a few months.

“We sold quite a few ‘college survival baskets’ around finals weeks last semester to parents with children at the U.,” Francis said.
