LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's basketball player Kyle Davis has decided to leave the Aggies' program, head coach Stew Morrill announced Tuesday in a press release from the school's sports information department.
"Kyle did a good job in his year at Utah State," Morrill said. "We will work hard to fill the opening created by his departure."
Davis, a sophomore forward from Draper, Utah (Alta HS), played one season at USU after transferring from Southern Utah following his return from an LDS Church Mission.
This season, Davis played in 29 games, starting 27, missing three games throughout the season with different knee injuries. Davis was fourth on the team in scoring at 9.1 points per game, ranking second on the team in rebounds with 7.6 per game, as well as leading the team in blocks with 1.3 bpg. Davis shot 50.3 percent (89-of-177) from the field, while making 68.0 percent (85-of-125) of his free throws.
During the regular season, Davis ranked seventh in the Mountain West overall in blocks (1.3), as well as seventh in MW-only games (1.2), as well as ranking ninth in the conference overall in rebounds (7.8), as well as 10th in MW-only games (7.4). The 1.3 bpg ranks Davis ninth on USU's single-season blocks per game list, while his total blocks of 39 just missed the Aggies' single-season top 10 list for blocks.
Utah State ended the season with an 18-14 overall and 7-11 Mountain West record in USU's first season in the league. The Aggies fell to San Diego State in the Mountain West quarterfinal, 73-39.
