OREM — A former BYU football coach has found a new office just minutes away from his old one in Utah County.

Joe DuPaix, formerly the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator for the BYU Cougars has taken a position as the head coach of Timpanogos High, principal Theron Murphy announced in a statement Monday.

"We could not be more thrilled for our boys, our program and our school community," Murphy said. "Coach DuPaix brings unparalleled Division 1 experience, tremendous vision and by example, will undoubtedly lead our boys to greater heights both on and off the field."

DuPaix is taking over for Ed Larsen, who recently took a job to coach for Lehi High. Larsen was 23-21 in four seasons as the head coach of Timpanogos.

“I am excited for the opportunity to be the head football coach at Timpanogos High School,” Joe DuPaix said. “I look forward to adding value to the program and more importantly the players.”

DuPaix was only with BYU for a short time, but he quickly made his mark on the program, being instrumental in the recruitment of current starting running back Jamaal Williams.

Unfortunately for BYU and DuPaix, the 2012 season was seen as a bit of a disappointment on the offensive side of the ball. The Cougars opted to rehire former offensive coordinator Robert Anae, and parted ways with DuPaix after two seasons.

Prior to BYU, DuPaix served as the slot backs coach at Navy, helping guide the Midshipmen to three straight bowl bids and two Commander-in-Chief trophies. The Midshipmen even defeated Notre Dame twice.

DuPaix played quarterback during his high school and college career. At Skyline High School, he played under his father, Roger DuPaix, guiding the Eagles to a state championship in 1990. He played his college ball at Southern Utah, where he set an NCAA Division 1-AA individual rushing record for yards by a quarterback (1,246 yards) in the 1996 season.

Timpanogos High School is hosting a meet and greet with the new coach Friday, March 21. Parents, students and the community are invited.
