WCC releases 2013-14 conference basketball schedule

The West Coast Conference released its 2013-14 Men's Basketball schedule on Tuesday, with the travel-partner format restored, as Pacific joins the fold to form a ten-team league.

BYU will open its conference season with the Los Angeles road swing through Loyola Marymount (Saturday, Dec. 28) and Pepperdine (Saturday, Dec. 30), before opening the home slate the following weekend, with San Diego visiting the Marriott Center on Saturday, Jan. 4. The Cougars will close out their WCC campaign by visiting the Toreros on Saturday, March 1st, following an in-week bye.

BYU's two byes come early (Thursday, Jan. 2), and late (Thursday, Feb. 27) in the conference season. From Thursday, Jan. 9 through Saturday, Feb. 22, BYU will play Thursday-Saturday every weekend, for seven consecutive weekends.

BYU's WCC slate features three stretches of three or more consecutive home and/or road games. League powers Gonzaga (four) and St. Mary's (three) also have multiple such stretches in their conference schedules.

Notably, BYU will play three straight home games, followed by four straight road games, followed by four consecutive home games.

Gonzaga will play four straight home games, followed by three straight road games, while later in the season following three straight home games with four consecutive road games to close out the campaign.

St. Mary's opens with three consecutive away games, then plays five straight home games, followed by four straight away games.

Highlight games against the Bulldogs and Gaels will be played Saturday, Jan. 25 (at Gonzaga); Thursday, Feb. 20 (v. Gonzaga); Saturday, Feb. 1 (v. St. Mary's); and Saturday, Feb. 15 (at St. Mary's).

BYU's first meeting with Pacific as a conference foe will take place on Thursday, Jan. 30 at the Marriott Center; the Cougars will travel to Stockton for a game on Thursday, Feb. 13.

From Nov. 20 through Jan. 4, BYU will play only two games in Provo, with eight of ten games in that stretch being played on away or neutral floors.

BYU's 31-game regular season slate is now complete; opponents have yet to be finalized for the Cougars' two home games in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic.
