WEST VALLEY CITY — #26 Chris Gerchman, from Spring Branch, Texas, was victorious at Rocky Mountain Raceways', an American Speed Association Member Track, Lucas Oil Modifieds main event on Saturday, June 15.

Gerchman took the lead on lap one and didn't relinquish it for the entire 75 lap main, winning the The BILSTEIN Great Salt Lake 75, presented by GEICO. Gerchman survived seven restarts and the weight of a 26-car field. #51 Jim Mardis, point leader going into the race, gave Gerchman a run for the win, but Gerchman was able to fend off all attempts.

Mardis finished in second, #5 Chase Catania in third, #32 Doug Hamm in fourth and #7R Nik Romano rounded out the top five.

The BILSTEIN Great Salt Lake 75, presented by GEICO marked the first appearance of the Lucas Oil Modifieds in Utah. Local drivers from Rocky Mountain Raceways' Maverik Modified class made quite a showing with the Lucas Oil Modifieds Series.

#01 Michael Hale set a new Open Motor Track record of 15.338, surpassing the previous record of 15.395, set by #4 Lynn Hardy on June 8, 2002. Hardy and Hale both kept the pressure on the out-of-town racers, racing for position at the front of the field. Hardy finished sixth in the main event and Hale finished in eighth.

Additional local racers included #84 Mark Ith Jr. who maintained a top five position until he lost an engine on lap 44. #77 Todd Beach won a spot in the main event after finishing fourth in the B-Main. Beach was involved with an early caution, ending his night. #79 Jeff Webster finished in 15th and #29 Zachary Webster finished in 22nd.

ASA Winners included #55 Jeff Kelly (Focus Midgets,) #16 David Baity (Hornets,) #0 Shelbi Combs (Mini Cups,) and #18 Victor Calligaro/Aaron Myers (Double Deckers.) ASA Weekly Racing will continue on Saturday, June 29 with the Winged Sprints, Focus Midgets, Comcast Super Stocks, Hornets, and Double Deckers. Gates open at 4pm and the green flags drop at 6:15pm.
