WEST VALLEY CITY — Five-time Maverik Modified Champion, #4 Lynn Hardy, picked up his first Maverik Modified win of the 2013 season at Rocky Mountain Raceways, an ASA Member Track, on Saturday, June 1.

The victory was not easily earned by Hardy, who had to endure several restarts and overcome the #77 of Todd Beach. Beach led the most laps of the main event and made an impactful stand against a veteran throng of racers, eagerly nagging at his heels.

Beach maintained his lead until lap 42, of the 50 lap main, when Hardy set his sights on first and a side-by-side battle ensued. For several laps the two Maverik Modified racers poised themselves to capture the lead but Hardy was able to put a nose out ahead of Beach for the victory. Hardy commended Beach's racing during his post-race interview, applauding his recent growth in the class.

#84 Mark Ith Jr. finished in second, #50 Roger Wilson finished in third, #00 Tyler Whetstone finished in fourth, and #30 Nick Parker rounded out the top five.

#66 Eric Rhead bested #25 Dillion Lawrence and #44 Al Jones for the Comcast Super Stock feature win. Gaining an advantage on a restart, Rhead passed #13 Tim Fahrner for the lead. Defending series champion Lawrence attempted to pass Rhead but to no avail. Lawrence finished in second, Jones in third, Fahrner in fourth, and #29 Cale Perkins in fifth.

Fans were a riot as Rocky Mountain Raceways new Double Decker class hit the America First Credit Union Super Oval in an abbreviated race course. The "Temporary Insanity" team of Victor Calligaro and Aaron Myers thrilled fans as they drifted through a corner on two wheels, only to bring it back down to Earth and secure the main event win.

Additional main event winners included: #0 Shelbi Combs (Mini Cups) and #18 Shawn Parry (Hornets.)

ASA weekly racing will continue on Saturday, June 8 with Winged Sprints, Focus Midgets, Figure-8 Cars and Western States Equipment Figure-8 Trains. Cowboy Kenny's Steel Rodeo will headline intermission with a freestyle motocross exhibition. Gates open at 4pm and the green flags drop at 6:15pm. Spectators will receive $5 off spectator admission when they bring a Coca-cola Product to the ticket booth.
