WEST VALLEY CITY - Mark Ith Jr. piloted his Maverik Modified to Rocky Mountain Raceways' victory circle on Saturday, August 16. Starting from the 12th position, Ith Jr. maneuvered his way to the front of the field where he engaged some of Rocky Mountain Raceways most competitive Maverik Modified players. He joined the likes of Michael Haddenham, Lynn Hardy, and defending Maverik Modified champion Tyler Whetstone in a chase for first, proving that this is Rocky Mountain Raceways' feature division.
With just 12 laps to go in the 50-lap main, Ith Jr. passed front runner Haddenham on the inside for the lead. Whetstone finished in second, Hardy in third, Haddenham in fourth, and Eric Rhead rounded out the top five. Ith Jr. is the first racer to pick up a second Maverik Modified main event win this season in a highly competitive, close class. His first win occurred on Saturday, May 31. Ith Jr. also goes home with a heat race win and fast qualifier status.
The America First Credit Union Super Oval will take a weekend off as Rocky Mountain Raceways hosts the Summer Send-Off and Big $ Bracket Race on the Young Kia Drag Strip, August 22-24. Oval racing will continue on Saturday, August 30 with Lee's Heating and Air Quarter Midgets in the morning and Maverik Modifieds, Western States Equipment Figure-8 Trains, Winged Sprints, Figure-8 Cars, and Focus Midgets in the evening.
