Three Utah Racers Collect Wins at NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League Western Conference Finals

WEST VALLEY CITY - Three Utah locals brought home championship NHRA Wally trophies at the NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League Western Conference Finals at Rocky Mountain Raceways on Saturday, July 12.

Kaylee Haarbrink, from South Jordan, Utah, secured the 8-9 Year Old win after besting Jessica Boardman, from Las Vegas, Nev., in the final round. Seth Andersen, from Kearns, Utah, beat out Codi Bettis, from DeLeon, Texas, for the win in the 14 Year Old category and Shelby Rae Schoenfeld, from Magna, Utah, topped Sierra Gartner for the 15 Year Old win. During the first round of competition, Schoenfeld received a Closest to Dial award for an 8.198 on an 8.19 dial. She also goes home with a Nic Woods 8.90 Engine for her runner-up efforts in Friday's Top of the Mountain race.

Race teams, from eight age categories, made the tow from across the United States and Canada for one of the NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League's premier events. "It was a great experience hosting the Jr. Drag Racing League Western Conference Finals and to have three of our racers win their events is icing on the cake," says Mike Eames, Rocky Mountain Raceways General Manager. "Our kids represented themselves well against some of the best competition in the Western United States."

The NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League will head to Bristol Dragway in Bristol, Tenn., for the NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League Eastern Conference Finals July 24-26.

Drag racing on the Young KIA Strip will continue on Friday, July 18 with the Summit ET Series and the Young Subaru Midnight Drags.
