WEST VALLEY CITY — 2013 defending Maverik Modified Champion, #00 Tyler Whetstone secured the win at Rocky Mountain Raceways' Modified 100 on Saturday, June 21. Whetstone survived several restarts as a series of cautions unfolded within the eager field behind him. Starting in the eighth position, Whetstone took the lead on lap 30 and checked out for the remaining 70 laps, gaining significant ground between cautions.
Veteran driver #4 Lynn Hardy came in second, racing a consistent line, telling of his championed background and experience behind the wheel. Hardy started the race in ninth and settled in for the first place hunt at the halfway point. Despite several strong restarts and passing attempts, Hardy was not able to make a pass stick for the lead. Starting in second, #17 Barry Egolf persevered through the cautions and restarts for the third place position.
Additional RMR Oval Racing Series' winners included: #89 Eric Barlow (Focus Midgets,) #22 Corey Walker (Figure-8 Cars) and #8 Todd Ripley (Hornets.)
Racing will continue on the America First Credit Union Super Oval next Saturday, June 28 with RMR's 18th Birthday Bash benefiting Utah Food Bank. In celebration of its 18th birthday, Rocky Mountain Raceways is offering free spectator admission for guests who bring five cans of food for Utah Food Bank. The celebration will include bounce houses, crafts, and treats. Racing will include the Comcast Super Stock Shootout, Winged Sprints, Mini Cups, Hornets, and Jr. Stingers.
