SALT LAKE CITY — Utah gymnastics made two announcements about members of its 2016 freshman class, Sabrina Schwab and MyKayla Skinner, today.

Schwab, from Lucas, Texas, has signed a National Letter of Intent for next season. She trains at WOGA in Plano, Texas, where she qualified as a Senior Elite on her first attempt at the 2013 WOGA Classic Elite Qualifier. She won the all-around in both the compulsory and optional elite testing. She also won the compulsory vault, bars, beam and floor along with taking first on all four events in the optional portion.

“Sabrina has the potential to be an All-American on bars and beam,” said Utah co-head coach Megan Marsden. “She will add artistry and quality of movement to our lineup. Sabrina may have a chance to surprise some people since she has had some injury issues for the past two seasons and has flown under the radar.”

Skinner, from Gilbert, Arizona, who signed with the Utes in November, is deferring enrollment for a year to pursue a berth on the 2016 U.S. Olympic team. The U.S. Olympic Women’s Gymnastics trials are July 8-10, 2016. She is a two-year member of the U.S. Senior National Team and is part of the gold medalist USA team at the 2014 World Championships.

Three other gymnasts — Shannon McNatt of Houston, Texas; MaKenna Merrell of Pleasant Grove, Utah; and Erika Muhaw of Montville, New Jersey — are commits with signed with Utah in November. Each are Junior Olympic qualifiers and plan to join the team in the fall.
