Person, Troy use hot second half to beat North Texas 86-74

DENTON, Texas (AP) — Wesley Person scored 21 of his 24 points in the second half and Jordon Varnado had 16 points with 10 rebounds to lead Troy to an 86-74 win over host North Texas in the Mean Green Challenge on Wednesday.

Jeremy Hollimon had 15 points and four steals while John Walton III scored 10 with three blocked shots for Troy (3-3).

The Trojans shot just 31 percent in the first half and went into the break trailing 33-31.

Troy missed four of its first five shots in the second half before a 7-0 run put the Trojans in front, 40-35, for good. They made 17 of their final 25 field-goal attempts and scored 55 points after halftime — their most in a half this season.

Allante Holston scored 17, Jeremy Combs added 13 while J-Mychal Reese and Deckie Johnson had 11 points apiece for North Texas (2-3). Carrington Ward scored 10.
