GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — East Carolina receiver Trevon Brown will miss three games after being placed on probation for a violation of the school's student code of conduct.

The school says probation prohibits students from representing ECU in activities and runs through Sept. 20, the day after the Pirates travel to Navy. Team spokesman Tom McClellan says Brown can practice during probation.

In a news release, the school says there was a violation of residence-hall policy while Brown hosted friends in his dorm. It says Brown "accepted responsibility for the actions of his guests" as the registered room resident, with coach Ruffin McNeill saying in a statement that Brown "did the right thing and handled it responsibly."

Brown had 14 catches for 264 yards and four scores last year. ECU hosts Towson on Saturday.
