Ed Yeates is a 40-year veteran in broadcasting, with B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Utah. His graduate thesis was a collaborative project on earthquakes involving both the Departments of Journalism and Geophysics.

He started in radio and moved to Channel 4 in 1965. His career with KSL 5 began in 1974. Though he's both produced and reported for television, he favors field reporting the sciences, which he's been covering on Eyewitness News for over 30 years.

Ed is a member of the National Association of Science Writers. Multiple awards include those from the National Society of Professional Journalists, the National Association of Program Executives, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the National Academy of Arts and Sciences. Other honors include the University of Utah's Quintus C. Wilson Alumni Achievement and Service to Journalism Awards.

Ed is married to former journalist Sherma Lind. They have a son, a daughter, and three grandchildren.
