Sam Penrod is the Utah County Bureau Chief for KSL 5. He primarily reports on stories in Utah County and frequently travels to cover news in Central and Southern Utah. Sam got his start at KSL 5 in 1997 during an internship during his senior year at BYU. After graduating, he was immediately hired and worked as a news producer, before moving to reporting. He has been based in the KSL5 Utah County News Bureau since 2000.
Sam had an interest in broadcasting at an early age and worked for KMTI Radio while in high school. He was also the station manager of the radio station at Snow College.
Sam is married to the former Holly Dyreng and they are the parents of two sons. Sam and Holly are also volunteers at the Newborn ICU at Intermountain Medical Center, where they talk with parents who have premature babies.
Sam enjoys reading, hiking and playing with his boys.
