MARRERO, La. (AP) — An emergency medical technician has died after an equipment failure at a mechanic shop caused an ambulance to fall on him.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office tells media outlets the unidentified victim was taken to the hospital Wednesday evening where he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff's spokesman John Fortunato says two EMTs and a mechanic were working on an ambulance on a rack in the mechanic shop at the West Jefferson Emergency Medical Services Headquarters in Marrero, when the rack gave way, falling on the one of the technicians and injuring another.
Fortunato says the second EMT sustained minor injuries and the mechanic was not injured.
Additional details were not immediately available.
