LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada jury ended a full day deliberating the fate of a former Las Vegas firefighter accused of hiring a homeless ex-convict to bludgeon his estranged wife to death with a hammer nearly three years ago.
Jurors are due to return Thursday to decide the fate of George Tiaffay (TEE'-uh-fay).
Prosecutors say Tiaffay manipulated Noel Stevens into killing Shauna Tiaffay in September 2012.
Stevens has already pleaded guilty. He told the jury that George Tiaffay promised him $5,000, bought the murder weapon and plotted the killing.
George Tiaffay was at work when Stevens hid in an apartment and attacked Shauna Tiaffay when she returned home from work as a casino cocktail waitress.
Defense attorney Robert Langford says Stevens is responsible for the crime, and his word can't be trusted.
