QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (AP) — SUNY Adirondack officials have announced that the upstate New York school has been awarded a grant to form a new academic program in computer network security.
The Glens Falls Post-Star reports (http://bit.ly/1X9ZIEm ) the State University of New York system selected the Queensbury college to receive the $77,200 high needs grant, which is aimed at funding new programs linked specifically to state workforce needs.
Officials say the proposal was developed in collaboration with SUNY Adirondack faculty, including Information Technology-Computer Networking program professors.
President Kristine Duffy says experts are predicting a 37 percent growth for the information security industry over the next decade.
The funding is earmarked for the 2015-2016 school year.
Duffy says it's crucial to provide students with "a new pathway to success" in the growing field.
