MIAMI (AP) — Hurricane Guillermo continues to race west-northwest but remains far away from Hawaii deep in the Pacific.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says Guillermo is about 1,335 miles (2,150 kilometers) east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii. The Category 2 hurricane had maximum sustained winds near 105 mph (165 kph).
The center says Guillermo hasn't strengthened over several hours but some strengthening is possible in the coming day before the storm is expected to begin weakening on Sunday.
It is moving west-northwest at 20 mph (31 kph).
Current forecast models show Guillermo will move near the Hawaiian islands sometime next week, though it is expected to weaken to a tropical storm by then.
