CASSVILLE, Mo. (AP) — A town in southwest Missouri is dealing with the impact of heavy rain in the region.

Police in Cassville say crews have had to evacuate some residents and rescue others because of flooding. The Missouri Highway Patrol says several highways and roads were closed because of high water.

In Indiana, heavy rain inundated parts of the state, leading to flood warnings and the rescue of several people in Indianapolis.

The National Weather Service says nearly 5 inches of rain fell near Plainfield, about 15 miles west of Indianapolis, while Indianapolis set received 4.23 inches, eclipsing a 100-year-old record.

The Wayne Township Fire Department on the west side of Indianapolis reported on Twitter that crews evacuated 15 people and as many as eight pets from one flooded neighborhood.

In eastern Indiana, the Jay County Sheriff's Department said all events and rides at the county fair were closed Tuesday evening due to high water.
