LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Young students aspiring to be teachers could attend the University of Wyoming with help from a new scholarship created by a $1.8 million donation.
The Laramie Boomerang reports (http://bit.ly/1H3rp7e ) the Ray D. Kennedy College of Education scholarship was given by Ray Kennedy, a man who wanted to gift most of his estate to students studying education.
Kennedy died May 1 at the age of 90. He had been an educator and a Laramie resident for 34 years.
Senior vice president for development at the UW Foundation, John Stark, says the donation is a "game-changer" and one of the largest the College of Education has ever received for a scholarship.
A school board will determine how to distribute the scholarship, which is likely to go into effect in 2016.
