TOWER CITY, N.D. (AP) — An official count has confirmed that voters in the Maple Valley School District in southeastern North Dakota have rejected a $10.3 million bond measure.
The measure needed 60 percent approval to pass, and preliminary results after the April 14 election showed only 59.76 percent in favor. KOVC radio reports that an official count on Monday that included some remaining absentee ballots put the percentage at 59.6 percent.
If the measure had passed, the school district would have closed schools in Buffalo and Oriska and brought all students into a renovated school in Tower City. The proposal also was narrowly defeated by voters in a January election.
