NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are opening higher, breaking a two-day losing streak, as investors were encouraged by some positive earnings news.
Supermarket operator Kroger jumped 6 percent early Thursday after reporting income that was well ahead of what analysts were looking for. Costco also rose 2 percent after its own earnings beat estimates.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 22 points, or 0.1 percent, at 18,118 as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained two points, also 0.1 percent, to an even 2,100. The Nasdaq composite rose 11 points, or 0.2 percent, to 4,975.
The price of oil fell 47 cents to $51.07 a barrel in early trading in New York.
Bond prices rose slightly. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 2.11 percent.
