PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Thousands of Philadelphia schoolchildren will be able to explore and develop an appreciation for art at the Barnes Foundation because of a new endowment.
KYW-AM (http://cbsloc.al/1lGmbEB) said the $500,000 endowment announced Wednesday comes from the proceeds of pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline's sale of its art collection.
Glaxo recently moved its Philadelphia headquarters into a new open-plan building without offices — and with no walls to hang its company-owned art.
More than 7,000 children from kindergarten through eighth grade will be able to take advantage of programs tailored to their age groups.
Developed with input from the Philadelphia School District, the programs use the Barnes' collection to enrich curriculum subject areas.
