CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Quarterback Cam Newton says he's healthy and "can't wait" to participate in spring and summer workouts for the Carolina Panthers.

Newton missed almost all of last year's offseason's workouts following left ankle surgery in March of 2014. He says Panthers trainer Ryan Vermillion recently sent him photos of the injury from a year ago that "put things in perspective for me."

An excited Newton spoke to reporters during a break from his annual Cam Newton Foundation School Pride Day, which drew 800 students and administrators from Charlotte area schools to Memorial Stadium.

Newton says he will miss some workouts in the coming weeks while finishing his degree at Auburn. The two-time Pro Bowl quarterback says he hasn't decided if he'll walk with his class at the graduation ceremony.
