RENO, Nev. (AP) — Two northern Nevada teachers have been honored by President Obama for helping students succeed in the fields of math and science.
KRNV-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1LX6i9U ) Carrie Hair from Swope Middle School and Jan Hrindo from Incline Middle School were both honored Wednesday with the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
The award is given out annually to exceptional K-12 science and math teachers from across the country. Winners of the presidential honor receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation.
President Obama said the awardees from all across the county are helping shape America's future by getting kids involved in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Both teachers will receive their awards at an event in Washington, D.C. later this summer.
