EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State University researchers are heading a $4.7 million federal program aimed at reducing obesity among pre-school children.
The East Lansing school says the five-year grant is part of a $42 million U.S. Department of Agriculture initiative. It's funded under the 2014 Farm Bill.
The university says that Human development professor Holly Brophy-Herb "will lead a multidisciplinary team to address obesity prevention among families with preschoolers."
It's focusing on what the university calls "healthy family mealtimes among low-income families."
Brophy-Herb says healthy mealtimes are "a key practice in obesity prevention and healthy lifestyles.
