Utah Valley pulls away from S. Utah, 85-75

CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) — Mitch Bruneel and Zach Nelson combined to score 51 points as Utah Valley University posted an 85-75 win over Southern Utah Saturday night.

Southern Utah (0-3) held a one-point lead at intermission and led by one, 61-60 with under eight minutes to play, but the Wolverines had the stronger finish.

Bruneel was 11 of 15 from the field, 2 of 3 from three-point range, and a perfect 3 for 3 from the line to lead Wolverines (2-1). Nelson was 8 of 12 from the field while the team shot a brisk 31 of 55 (56 percent) and 7 of 13 from long range (53.8 percent).

A.J. Hess scored 12 points and Cal Hanks added another 11 to lead Southern Utah (0-3).

Utah Valley State and Southern Utah now have played five games, with the Wolverines holding a 4-1 advantage in the series.
