SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A mid-level Mormon leader is apologizing for his son's attempt to capitalize on a phrase he coined during a speech at last weekend's church conference.

Devin Durrant urged Mormons Sunday to choose a scripture verse and "ponderize" its meaning.

A website created by his adult son that went up selling t-shirts with the phrase triggered a backlash from Mormons who were offended by efforts to capitalize on the speech. The site was taken down Sunday night.

Durrant said Monday in a Facebook statement that he should have used better judgment to squash his son's plan.

Officials with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints declined comment on the matter.

Durrant, a former NBA player, is on a panel that oversees of the religion's Sunday school program.
