SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The "Book of Mormon" is receiving a rousing reception in the musical's first-ever showing in the heart of Mormonlandia. A sold out crowd in Salt Lake City cheered wildly when the show began last night with fictional Mormon missionaries singing in front of a backdrop of the Salt Lake City skyline and Mormon temple. The biggest applause came during a scene when an African character sings, "Salt Lake City, the most perfect place on Earth."

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Search and rescue teams had to use a helicopter to find a hiker who became distressed in Mill Creek Canyon. KUTV-TV reports that the 25-year-old man was with a group in a remote part of the mountain near Dog Lake yesterday when he became sick and was not able to get down on his own. The Department of Public Safety helicopter took the man to a waiting ambulance.

BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) — Psychiatric evaluations have been ordered for a man accused of killing his estranged wife in Brigham City. The Standard-Examiner reports that 20-year-old Spencer Gerlach is accused of killing his ex-wife 19-year-old Keltsie Mansfield Gerlach on April 15. The pair had divorced a month before. Their 1-year-old daughter was found in the apartment unharmed.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Ski industry titan Vail Resorts is set to make official today that it's combining Canyons Resort and Park City Mountain Resort under one name and logo. That will make it one of the largest ski areas in North America once a connecting lift is completed. Vail plan to make the announcement this afternoon in Park City.
