Shelley Osterloh Reporting ... Students at Weber State University demonstrated in support of US troops today saying they want the world to know how proud they are of American Soldiers.
Today's noon hour rally on the Weber State University Campus attracted several hundred students.
The message was "We support our Troops" but the mood was a celebration of America's apparent victory or the Iraqi regime.
Student demonstrators: "chanting, USA... USA"
Rally organizers say, they got tired of seeing anti-war protesters on TV... and wanted to make sure the troops know, they have the people's support.
John Tribe, Rally Organizer: "I FEEL THE PULSE OF AMERICA IS WITH OUR TROOPS, WITH OUR PRESIDENT AND WITH THIS WAR, AND SO WE WANTED TO DO SOMETHING ... WE WANTED OUR MESSAGE TO GET OUT."
Student: "I KNOW THAT THE LORD WILL PROTECT THOSE WHO ARE FIGHTING FOR WHAT IS RIGHT. AND I BELIEVE THAT AMERICANS OVER THERE ARE FIGHTING FOR OUR FAMILIES OUR LIBERTY AND OUR FREEDOM.
Student: "THEY NEED OUR SUPPORT WHETHER YOU SUPPORT THE WAR OR NOT, YOU SHOULD SUPPORT AMERICANS ALL TOGETHER. CHEERS "
Many students say they are optimistic the war will be over soon.
Student: "I FEEL REALLY GOOD, I FEEL LIKE OUR TROOPS HAVE DONE A GOOD JOB, GETTING IN THERE AND TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS... LIKE THEY SHOULD"
Student: "I THINK THE WORST OF IT IS OVER, I JUST... WHAT WAS GOING ON IN BAGHDAD THIS MORNING.. SEEING THE EXCITEMENT OF THE IRAQIS AND STUFF "
Student: "DANG I JUST THINK IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE EVERYBODY OVER THERE LIBERATED AND FREE AND BE ABLE TO HAVE THEIR OWN DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY AND NOT BE SCARED"
These students say just coming out in support of the troops is their way of demonstrating freedom a freedom they hope the Iraqi people will soon share.
Woman sings: "FOR THE LAND OF FREE, AND HOME OF THE BRAVE, CHEERING"
Students cut and pinned a thousand of these ribbons and handed all of them out in in about an hour..
So there were many folks at Weber State University wearing their patriotic colors today.
