(KSL News) -- There's a new push underway to get Utahns to buy more energy efficient homes.

Area utility companies, environmental agencies, and home builders have formed a new partnership to help increase the supply of the homes, and increase demand for them by providing Utah families a new mortgage initiative.

Officials say energy efficient homes can save families as much as one third on their energy bills.

To be labeled as Energy Star, homes must use at least 30 percent less energy than a typical house.
